I disagree with that.
Newt has always been a pragmatist, and he figured out, unlike other Republicans, that if you don’t offer alternatives to the Democrats’ environmental policies, then they will get their policies passed in full. The political process works under the Hegelian Dialectic: thesis, antithesis, synthesis. If no antithesis is offered, then the thesis is not subject to synthesis.
Newt sat on that couch with Nancy Pelosi not to endorse her proposals, but to offer his own counter-proposals. Newt has offered cost-neutral free-market alternatives to Cap’n Tax.
And 50% of Republicans believe in Global Warming to some degree. John McCain, who is a full fledged, true believer in Global Warming and a proponent of Cap’n Tax managed to get the GOP nomination. So there is no reason to think that Newt’s common sense alternatives to the Democrats’ plans would penalize him in the GOP primaries, much less end his run.
The correct alternative is to simply tell the truth - that the myth of global warming is nothing but a hoax designed to enrich a few select entities and individuals at enormous expense to the rest of the nation.
As I said on another thread, you don't lay down with the enemy and then pretend you're still a friend. Newt laid down with the enemy.
Sounds like a good reason to NOT be a Republican. Democrat-lite is no way to go through life.
