A cursory read of the responses to your post shows some people here have no idea how much the "Swimmer" has hurt Ted. That and his disastrous 1980 interview virtually killed his Presidential aspirations, leaving him with his Senate post.

The fact that conservatives don't even know recent history of how such disparaging associations can kill any possibility of Presidential contention makes you worried about the state of pollyannaish, uninformed conservatory, that is frequently on display here.
