CEDAR RAPIDS Fast-food worker charged An employee at a Cedar Rapids fast-food restaurant was charged Monday with assault for allegedly throwing hot cooking grease on four people during an argument.

Lucas D. Smith , 17, of 518 39th St. NE, faces four counts of assault causing bodily injury stemming from the incident at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the McDonald’s at 1530 First Ave. NE.

According to the complaint, Smith threw the grease at Adonis Clark, 19, and Marland Dean, 22, with whom he was having an argument.

The grease also struck two boys, ages 3 and 7, who were standing at the counter when the alleged incident occurred, the complaint said.

All four victims were treated at Mercy Medical Center and released.

Lucas D. Smith , 20, of Cedar Rapids, pleaded guilty to second-degree theft. He was accused of passing several checks totaling more than $1,000 between Oct. 1, 1999, and Jan. 17, 2000, after opening a checking account with false identification. Smith was given a five-year suspended sentence and placed on probation.

CEDAR RAPIDS Action has been taken on the following felony cases in Linn District Court:

Lucas D. Smith , 20, of Cedar Rapids, was cited for violation of terms of a deferred judgment received in May 1998 on a charge of forgery. Smith was judged guilty, given a five-year suspended sentence and returned to probation. He also was ordered to reside up to 365 days at the Hinzman Center.
