I saw them booed off the stage at Winterland in SF.

They were the warm-up band for Steve Miller.

Of course, that was 1971...or 2.

In 1971 ZZ Top opened for Ten Years After in Baltimore. Tres Hombres was their only album at the time. They were well received, even without the beards.
