It’s instructive to see how prayer was second nature in those days.

And with the passage of time, and different types of history taught in schools, too many young people don’t know their World War II history. It’s good to have events such as today’s D-Day ceremony to instill some history in people.

Too many young people don’t know what D-Day was all about, or why it was so important in liberating Europe. So many young people, especially liberal young people who compared Bush to Hitler, don’t know about the real Hitler. They don’t know how Germany invaded so many countries so quickly. They don’t know how the Germany and the Axis powers were taking over Europe. They don’t know what happened at Dunkirk or about the Battle of Britain. They don’t know the courage of Churchill in rallying our British allies, especially during that time after the fall of France when Britain stood alone against the Axis.

And in the Pacific Theater, they don’t know the significance of the Battle of Midway. They don’t know about the Bataan Death March. They don’t know about Guadalcanal. They don’t know how, in the early dark days of the war, Jimmy Doolittle’s raid on Tokyo inspired a nation.

But the world today was largely shaped by the events of World War II. Even if these days of moral relativism, we can proudly say that we were in the right in World War II, and that the world is a better place because the Axis powers were defeated. We can proudly say that we defeated evil in that war.

To those liberals who say today that “war never solved anything, war is not the answer” and all that, the answer to their question has to include the events of World War II. Good fought evil in that war.

In one of the six volumes of his “History of WWII”, Churchill mentions that he was chosen to select the hymns for the joint religious services aboard HMS Prince of Wales. This was during their meeting (him and Roosevelt)in the middle of the Atlantic.

One he selected was “Onward Christian Soldiers”. I later saw a short clip of the American and British sailors singing that song, and was reminded that most of the British ones would be dead in a few months.

On a sadder note, The Greatest Generation is leaving us; more than a thousand a day, quickly passing into the history pages of human memory.

Still some time remaining to SALUTE and THANK them for rising to the challenges of their times. I pray we will find a way to follow their example and eventually find the determination and fortitude within ourselves to answer the call of history...but I’m not so certain this time.

Yup- and if we continue to kick God out of our military, we’ll pay a big price for it, but noone will understand why, and instead blame it on htis that and the other thing too instead of recognizing hwere hte cancer first began. We were a great country precisely because God raised this tiny nation up to one of hte greatest nations on earth- a nation which ALL other nations turned to for military help- but we ignored God after awhile, and now, we’re so hamstrung by the media and ‘human rights’ organizations that micromanage everythign our military odoes, that we now have a hard time even defendign ourselves properly anymore, and we’ve thrown the very God who raised us up under the bus and now apparently think we’re so mighty and strong and that it was our own efforts that made us that way, that we no longer need humble ourselves before our Creator

God gave us our might and power, but sadly, we are now worshipping our stregnth more than God, and sadly, we’re goign to pay a heavy heavy price for it! And everyone will be dumbfounded as to why!
