SALT LAKE CITY -- Armed assailants attack and rob a Latter-day Saint Apostle, his wife and two other couples in the African nation of Mozambique. Elder Russell M. Nelson and his wife, Wendy, were on a Church assignment when the incident happened.

According to Church spokesman Scott Trotter, the wife of the mission President Blair Packard suffered a broken arm. She and others also have cuts and bruises.

Elder William and Sister Shanna Parmley of the Africa Southeast Area Presidency. Elder and Sister Nelson traveled to Mozambique for these weekend meetings with Church leaders there; Elder William and Sister Shanna Parmley of the Africa Southeast Area Presidency, and Pres. Blair and Sister Cindy Packard; he is the President of the Mozambique Maputo Mission.

The country is located in the southeastern part of the African continent on the Indian Ocean; Maputo is the Capitol.

Pres. Blair and Sister Cindy Packard; he is the President of the Mozambique Maputo Mission. The Church Statement says: "On Friday evening they were having dinner together in the mission president's home when armed assailants entered the home and robbed them. We don't have complete information yet, but we understand that Sister Packard's arm was broken. In addition, she and others suffered some superficial injuries, mainly cuts and bruises. Elder and Sister Nelson will continue their assignment over the weekend as planned."

The Church statement also includes information that authorities in that city are investigating the matter.

Former missionaries to Mozambique who we talked with Saturday tell us that they were warned to always be cautious and told about the dangers of life in that African nation.

That mission prez is certainly doing well for himself.

He must REALLY need to tell the exact time while in Mozambique.

My thought as well.

But anyone with a clue should know the risk of being robbed when going over to some dirt poor, third world ,hell hole of a country.

Wearing something that expensive is an invitation to be robbed.

Sorry to see that you are being stalked to the point that your home town is even being mentioned and your activities on other forums. This is the same member who yesterday threatened another member (EternalVigilance) with legal action becuse he disagreed with him.

I don’t understand why he’s still here but then again, I don’t own the place nor am I a mod nor a wannabe.

I hope you are protecting yourself against this kind of intrusive behavior, it could escalate.

So, AMPU, you are now saying that if a man earns good money, he should not go on a mission? Or are you saying that if a man has private means, he should not enjoy the blessings of The Lord? Or are you just being viscious against a crime victim because he is LDS? Think about it. I will believe the latter until you can prove different and you should be ashamed of yourself.

So, according to you the victim of the crime were twice guilty of inciting it: LDS and not poor enough to suit you. You are sounding like somebody from Democrat Underground.

I’ve traveled overseas to a country not nearly so poor and I was warned, and had the sense as well, not to take anything of any great value.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that you’re likely to get robbed for something like that. It happens here sometimes, it WILL happen there.

But your projecting about my thoughts and motives is very revealing, but just because you’d do something, doesn’t mean everyone else would.

It is very sad.
There should be some common sense here. When people go to a foreign country they need to know what is a appropriate to wear, or how to behave, especially if going on a mission.
To wear flashy clothes or jewelry is an open invitation to this sort of thing.
Hopefully there will be some training going on before people are sent out again.

Like I have said before one thing I like about LDS threads is the irony, it is everywhere.

In this case we have a poster accusing you of having nothing better to do but plant flowers and “hating Mormons”, yet they have the time to spend on google tracking down everything you have posted on the web trying to build a profile on you for no real reason.

Hum...

Sounds like a little projection to me.

Anyways, we got your back but even money says the poster is the quintessential paper tiger, lots or roar with little bite

Rape rate a huge danger to Utahns
Salt Lake Tribune

“One in eight Utah women will be raped sometime during her lifetime. And one in three Utah women will experience some form of sexual violence - child molestation being the most common, according to a new report released Thursday by the Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice.”

“Rape is the only violent crime in Utah whose rate exceeds the national average. By comparison, Utah’s rates for other violent crimes - such as murder, robbery or aggravated assault - are historically half to a third of the national average, according to the report, entitled ‘Rape in Utah: A Survey of Utah Women About Their Experience with Sexual Violence.’”

It's a slap in the face for those so poor that they barely have enough to eat.

Some unscrupulous churches could actually use their displays of wealth as a mean to get the poor and uneducated to “join” in their memberships.

I’ve read that often times these third world countries can have explosive missionary sucesses with proselyting because the citizens believe it will “fast-track” them into America. When that doesn’t happen, the third world citizens go back to their old way of life with only discouragement.

I pray that Christian ministers understand the futility of trying to impress the natives with their wealth and stature, and will go minister to the needs of the hungry and weak through loving service, and in humility.
