Some say that nitinol was developed as the result of attempts to reverse engineer the Roswell “memory metal.”

A fascinating book on the whole Roswell controversy is Carey, Thomas J., and Donald R. Scmitt, “Witness to Roswell.”

The pair started out researching the Roswell reports over a decade ago as skeptics intent on debunking the whole thing, but were gradually won over. The book is by far the most comprehensive - and yet most objective - investigation of Roswell ever published.

I read it as someone highly skeptical of the whole “tinfoil hat” mob, and was gradually won over. Believer or skeptic, it’s an amazing read and well worth the time.
