Actually, I seem to remember the Catholic position on abortion is contradictory to their own theology. Goes back to St Anselm or St Augustine’s arguments on the origins of life. If the soul life of the human is passed from the previous human generation genetically, then the argument against abortion is sound. On the contrary, I believe the Catholic position of St Anselm insisted upon the origin of our soul life to come directly from God, such that if a baby is emitted from the womb stillborn, it had not received a soul life from God. Accordingly, the cessation of a living fetus is not the same as a human life because it doesn’t yet have the soul.
The study also goes back to issues of imputation and grace.
