Why would you compare the two subjects? Joking about mass murder is pretty much by definition distasteful and offensive, whereas joking about alien abductions is, well...not.
Depends on the context and audience.
I can enjoy some of the humor occasionally . . . even from the naysayers. When it shreds serious discussion so often, it becomes extremely offensive to most of us 150+ persons on the ping list.
Of course, thoughtless spoil-sport jerks enjoy having their fun at our expense and we can do nothing about it. Doesn’t mean we have to be thrilled about it.
