the head looks like a viper head even though the body looks like a common rat snake.

Could be the snake had recently eaten.

I’ve got plenty of rat snakes on our rural property and even have one loose in the house down stairs in the basement from the skin we find ever year. I’ve watched them eat with my kids...the head shape is different from the pictures shown at the beginning of the thread.
