Now why would our Humblegunner bother the Sheriff over a little ole' snake. Any needed shooting, he does himself.

Even Achmed the Terrorist was shot out there, a couple of times it seems. Once by a "contractor", who usually works in Iraq. He got himself run over once too.
Achmed is a lousy terrorist. Enthusiastic, but not very good at his job.
