Which is what Ronald Reagan did, much to the dismay of the simplistic ideologues who dream of some sort of global borderless "free trade" utopia.
Where Ronald Reagan saw trade regulations, restrictions or tariffs that didn't serve the best interests of the American people, he would work to remove or amend them. Where Reagan saw that regulations, restrictions or tariffs that served our national interests, he would retain or create them.
That's why for all their fabrications and hysterical yammering, none of the historical revisionists and other Clintonistas on this thread could reconcile their false portraits of Reagan as a knee-jerk "free trader" with his actual record in office.
No, it is not. It's called looking out for some Americans over others. That's what protectionists fail to understand, and free traders will continue to point out. You want to raise taxes on Americans in order to protect Americans.
Perhaps Mojave will chance along and fabricate Reagan's record on that score.
Oh, and why did you ask me if Obama was a leftist? Just trying to make conversation?
