The problem is we can’t believe our own press. Better safe than sorry. And people in weak health will die.
People in weak health die every year from the flu. A friend of mine lost both parents to the flu with a week of each other (this was a couple years ago, during an average flu season.)
If I’ve understood it correctly, during the 1918 Spanish flu, people who were younger and had the healthiest immune systems, actually suffered the greatest mortality.
It was the devastating hyper-response of robust immune systems in overdrive that hastened death in this demographic. So, if this is correct, in some pandemics, and perhaps in this one, the weaker might actually fare better.
