I don’t like a crusade against ALL dogs of a specific breed.

Timothy McVeigh was both a conservative and a Veteran — that doesn’t make all conservatives and Veterans mass-murdering wack jobs.

Dogs are owned property, just like CARS and GUNS are, and we conservatives don’t want Libs taking away our cars and guns just because both cars and guns are involved in many times more injuries and deaths than Pit Bulls will ever be.

The owned dog, and therefore the breed, is no more responsible for the injuries and deaths than the owned car or gun. It is the OWNER who bears the responsibility, in all cases. And in all cases, even a responsible owner can have accidents...

The brakes can go out on a car, causing the driver to sail into an intersection and kill a pedestrian. A child can get into a gun cabinet, even a locked one, and kill himself or another child (I knew where my parents kept the key). And a meter reader can leave a gate unlocked, allowing a dog to escape to cause havoc in the neighborhood. So accidents happen to even responsible owners. We call those tragedies.

But in the overwhelming majority of pit bull and non-pit bite cases, the root cause is a bad owner, and in most cases, there were plenty of signs that the dog had bad temperament prior to the news-making attack.

Breeders need to stop breeding dogs with bad temperament - of any breed. And bad owners need to be held responsible for damages caused by their property. Unfortunately, it is often one and the same - a bad owner with a bad dog who breeds it intentionally to get an even more bad-ass dog. Thus, some LINES of some breeds, especially pit bulls, are ruined and should never be bred.

But if you take away pit bulls, these same bad-ass people will fill their blood-lust with another breed... German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Pressa Canario, etc. It isn’t the breed, it is the owner.

(But yes, there are absolutely cases where an individual dog should be put down. I am not a bleeding heart saying every dog should be saved.)

So count me in for the $5 pledge. Except mine is good for all pit bull posts, not just Chet’s, because Counter-Morter will just do the posting for Chet.

“Brent Chapman, Dog’s Owner, “That’s where we found him.”

When Melissa Chapman reached her dog Ben, his pit bull attackers had already done so much damage the dog was on the verge of death.

Melissa Chapman, Dog’s Owner, “It looked like two lions attacking a new kill.”

Ben was bleeding so much even a veterinarian wasn’t able to save him.

“VALLEY CENTER —— The top official at the San Pasqual Indian Reservation said he was very concerned about the recent dog attacks in the Paradise Mountain area, but he maintains that the reservation was not to blame.

Allen Lawson, chairman of the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians’ Tribal Council, said he believes wild dogs —— not dogs owned by residents on the reservation —— attacked two horses and killed two dogs earlier this year.

“This is going too far —— blaming the reservation,” said Lawson, adding that dogs have also attacked residents and animals on tribal land but that the dogs in question haven’t been linked to an owner on the reservation.

But that’s disputed by a half-dozen residents and livestock owners on Sunset Vista Lane, just off tribal land.

They remain frustrated by tribal and county authorities who they said have not followed up with them on the attacks, which began in late January. Though no new attacks have been reported since March 18, many continue to carry shotguns and pistols for protection, they said.

Residents in the otherwise quiet community east of Valley Center believe the dogs, described as pit bulls, are owned by a man who lives just across from them, on the reservation.”

““When my sister got on the bus and left the puppy jumped on me and whimpered,” said Hauck.

Shortly afterward, the puppy’s father, a full-grown rottweiler named D.J attacked.

“He jumped on me and started biting me,” said Hauck, “It dragged me in the middle of the road.”

That’s when a neighbor and passing driver intervened, pulling the dog off and calling authorities.

The dog is registered to Bay County residents 38-year-old Janiero Nopez Johnson and 39-year-old Stephanie Deneir Johnson. They were arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with attack or bite by a dangerous dog, a felony.

“Pet owners should take the responsibility to keep their animals leashed or make sure that they don’t roam the neighborhood,” said Wice.

According to Florida statute, the dog will be held for 10 days and then destroyed. During that time, the owners are eligible for appeal. The puppy will remain in the custody of animal control until the investigation is complete.”

An 11-year-old Rappahannock County girl is hospitalized after authorities say she was attacked by pit bull on Tuesday.

Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office Major Scott Jenkins said deputies were called to the scene on Scrabble Road, off U.S. 522 around 5:30 p.m.

Jenkins said the attack occurred inside a residence while the victim was visiting a friend.

As deputies were on the way to the scene, Jenkins said the dog continued to attack the girl and a neighbor grabbed nearby objects and began hitting the dog in an attempt to stop the attack.

When authorities arrived, Jenkins said the dog had been coaxed into a kennel.

The girl received severe bite wounds to her face, neck, arms and legs.

She was taken by rescue squad to Culpeper Regional Hospital then transferred to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Jenkins said she was listed in stable condition.

Jenkins said the dog, a family pet, was euthanized. It is not clear what may have provoked the animal to attack.”

“A pit bull mix got out of its yard Easter Sunday morning in Jim Thorpe, fatally attacked another dog and hurt some people trying to save the smaller dog’s life, police said.

The dog killed the smaller animal and a man needed stitches on his nose to close a bite wound, police said.

Jim Thorpe police officer Leo Clements said the dog got out of a yard by crawling under a fence. About 8:30 a.m., it attacked the smaller dog and a group of people tried to intervene on W. Broadway, Clements said. He said the dog bit three of the people.

He said the pit bull mix will be quarantined at home for 10 days, as is department procedure when a dog attacks someone.”

The girl underwent surgery at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah for facial and head injuries.

The girl’s older sister and her sister’s boyfriend were also injured when they tried to put the dog in a bedroom.
