I live/work in TX. People are talking a LOT about it in the coffee bars, including some execs.
I think it’s interesting how the media is downplaying and ridiculing Gov Perry’s comments. I even read one Dallas Morning Times article that asserted that the reporter had reviewed some Texas Library Archives asserting that there is no secession provision in Texas constitution. All I can say is that every person who is a product of Texas schools, KNOWS that Texas is the only state to be able to secede from the union. Anyone who has taken a TX History class and actually read the original TX Constitution has learned that.
While I would hope this would not happen, I fear that it is a very real and credible possibility. Water cooler talk is growing in support. I think Obama needs to really pay attention and run our country by appealing to ALL people instead of courting Democrat party favor at the expense of the common citizen (who earns less than $100K and could never afford to contribute to his campaign).
You've got it half right. What you're failing to recognize is that Texas was admitted to the Union not once, but twice. When Texas was readmitted to the union during reconstruction, the old terms became null and void.
Can you quote the document that gives Texas that right?
