When my children asked about ‘death’, I explained, “ Well, no one on earth knows exactally, but here is what I think it must be like kind of like for Believers.”
“Once upon a time, there was a caterpillar named Wiggles. He worked hard at wiggling around on the ground, and up bushes and trees. He and his brothers and sisters were very close and spent their days together, munching on twigs and leaves.
One day, his brothers and sisters found his empty suit. They sobbed and mourned, and, as they were carrying the empty caccoon up the hill to ‘caterpillar cemetary’, they wept, as they missed him, so much.
And, above them? Wiggles was FLYING! And, he looked down, saw his brothers and sisters, so very, very sad, and, he hollered to them, “Here I am! I am FREE! Can’t you see?”
And they kept marching up the hill to the caterpillar cemetary, not seeing ......yet.”
What a wonderful way to explain death to children.
