Maybe there are other beings elsewhere? And these other beings have found a way to traverse the distance, but are occassionally seen. And when they are seen, it’s generally by nutjobs. Oh, and I forgot, they occassionally abduct the likes of Louis Farakkan.

Actually, I have no problem accepting there are other beings elsewhere in the universe. I just don’t accept that they are exploring our planet.
