It was part of the whole “Idol gives back” thing, that’s why Carrie was reporting from Africa. But I agree, there are other impoverished places in the world they can visit.

What is it with entertainment types and Africa? Aren't there any other poor people in the world besides Africans? Sheesh! Slumdog Millionair comes to mind. Showed some pretty grim areas in India.
