Hate to say it in this instance, but . . . . I told you so.
When I wrote a column about how Bristol Palin remains a single mother--a baby mama--and had no legitimate reason to prolong getting married, several worshippers at the alter of St. Sarahmessiah told me I was wrong, that these two kiddie-parents (the Palin daughter and boytoy Levi Johnston) would be married this summer.
But, you see, I never believed they'd be married. In fact, I thought their engagement was a fiction put on by the Palin family to help win the Presidential election. And, unfortunately, I was right. As I noted, this kid had a very pretentious name ("Tripp Easton Mitchell Johston"), but not what was far more important--a father married to his mother....
But the issue I do care about is who will be the next Republican Presidential nominee. And how so-called social conservatives continue, with a straight face, to praise baby grandmama Sarah Palin (and chose her as their conservative of the year). She was not at home, when the pregnancy happened. She was busy blindly chasing her ambitions. And this is what happens when you have a working mother and a Mr. Mom, i.e., the Palins. Now, Todd Palin can proudly wear a new title, Mr. Grand-Mom....
The only one I feel sorry for here: this kid, who has the misfortune of being born to a single mother in a family that has far more pretensions than actual good values. Good luck, Tripp. You'll need it. For your sake, I wish it were otherwise.
Sorry, kid, but you're just not the luckiest bastard on earth. Or even in Alaska.
(Hmmm . . . am I still allowed to use the word, "bastard"?)...

I fear the press has made Palin, like Dan Quayle, unelectable.I do know that there seems little middle ground :voters either love or hate the idea of Sarah Palin as presidential timber.
I did vote McCain/Palin and believe we would have been better off as a nation if they had won.
Really. Seems to me you are a willing participant in the very same practice you revile- against both the Palins and other freepers. Practice what you preach.
then finding out it was going to be a down syndrome baby.
Pretty life changing for the whole family. Pretty scary for a teenager, old enough to know it was going to be hard to have a kid in the family that was going to be “different”, too young to understand how to accept that and cope. Teens sometimes are so dramatic and selfish- everthing is all about them. I wondered if Bristol's recklessness in getting preggers may have been partly from acting out her grief and anger with what was happening to her family, by turning to her boyfriend.
I totally agree. We don’t want to turn into DU where no one is allowed to say a negative word about Obama or else they’re called out for it.
I personally have my doubts, because of all the family drama (which is no one’s business, but as seen in the last election cycle will be broadcast...that’s just the way things are and no one’s going to change it) whether she can be a successful candidate in the future, outside the state of Alaska.
In what capacity do you serve the Palin campaign?
Are you a volunteer ?
In what capacity do you serve conservatives?
Family drama that, if this were a liberal, wouldn’t even be an issue. I am so saddened that so many freepers are falling for the MSMs plan... keep Palin in the news so even conservatives doubt her.
This is none of her business, or mine.
I disagree she is foremost a writer and she doesn't mince words.
Schlussel and ilk merely insult without saying anything worthwile. You can learn a thing or two from Coulter... but I can't see anything redeeming about the above "article".
As catty as it was written, it had a solid "I told ya so" that was spot on. I also believe the show of young love birds was an act they tried to pass on the average joe like you and me.
But the author also makes a bold prediction which I also believe will be spot on, that Palin will not be a serious contender in the next election cycle.
I also don't care for the language use in the article, it is not needed and a distraction IMHO... but as far as newsworthy, it grabbed my attention and I didn't know the circumstances about Palin's daughter until I read this, so it was newsworthy to me.
You may ask why I even cared about Palin's daughter, lets just say I take all in consideration, and this does come in play for me (and I am sure other beside me at FR would agree if honest about the matter).
The answer stands before your eyes! The Bible tells us the truth, it is worthwile and valuable!
Thus why I quoted it and gave verse by verse record where I was quoting.
What is Schlussel telling us other than how foulmouthed and petty she is?
I can't argue the need for her mouth to be washed with soap, but the point she made about Palin in upcoming elections time will prove to be not petty.
Should that read “ catty” ?
I imagine the irony of your calling
her stupid and then trying to insult her
while choosing a word that is patently
incorrect is lost on you.
Enough! This Debbie broad needs to get a life. And men who continue to wallow in this situation look a tad anal and effeminately odd. Really.
No, I’m admitting that those who believe that are idiots.
Oh, I’m crushed that the enlightened grammar cop has caught me!!!
It has nothing to do with doubting her, it has everything to do with facing reality. It would be nice if we lived in a world minus the liberal media but we don’t.
There was drama, part of it media created, but real, nonetheless, surrounding Palin. Any parent of a pregnant teenager will tell you there’s “drama” and it is a crisis for the family. So to make believe it’s not a problem is unrealistic for us. I, personally, don’t know why one would want to drag their family through the garbage in another 4 years. Once her kid’s are older, then the criticism and the media’s spotlighting don’t have the same effect.
Think about Cheney’s daughter. Hardly an issue, why...she was an adult. I’d love to see Palin run again, I just don’t think it’s being realistic to think she has a chance of getting a message across when the media will be harping on her past family and political issues: troopergate, the money that had to be paid back for travel expenses, the clothes budget, the unwed pregnant daughter, the unwed pregnant daughter who didn’t marry the baby’s dad...yada, yada, yada.
Yet you seem awfully compelled to constantly comment on it. Obsess much?
I hated what they did to Dan Quayle.
I have my doubts about Sarah, too. She will have to reintroduce herself to the public once again.
I regret that she said yes to VP. If she had Presidential ambitions, VP is NOT the way to get there. Winning VP’s rarely become POTUS, let alone losing VP’s. Plus, she really wasn’t ready, just as Obama wasn’t ready to be Pres.
She should have just given a great speech at the GOPconvention, a la Obama 2004, and then run in 2012 or 2016. Hitching her wagon to the loser McCain was a bad idea.
