DUI defendant claims that he's his own country

EASTON, Pa. (AP) - A man accused of driving drunk said Pennsylvania courts have no jurisdiction over him because he's his own country. After seeing the paperwork that 44-year-old Scott Allan Witmer filed with the court claiming sovereignty, a Northampton County judge said Tuesday he cannot be released from jail until he gets a mental exam.

Ask him for his passport and visa, then arrest him for being an illegal.

If he is a country of one, then he is the head of state and as such enjoys diplomatic immunity :-)

He didn’t have a Birth Certificate to prove that he was eligible to be a citizen of himself.

I used to run into these goobers on "survivalist" BBS. Oddly, a lot of them were from Pennsylvania.

Yeah, that was my first thought. I’m ashamed to say, but I was once employed in a seasonal position with the IRS (don’t judge; I was young and needed a job). Anyways, my job was processing and assigning written correspondence, and I got a lot of letters from tax protesters who would frequently use the term “sovereign person” while arguing about the 16th Amendment being illegal or whatever.
