I thought I was doing well after putting my USB key drive through the washing machine at the weekend - still works!

The English deliberately pick different words for simple things just to annoy us I swear.
I took the lift to the car park and pub my mobile in the boot.

At least that way your mobile will stay on the motorway instead of ending up on your plate next to your chips.

I can imagine this guy a few months later going into a store for a warranty repair and swearing up and down he never got his phone wet.

I heard on another story that the phone didn't survive, just the SIM card which the person who found the phone put into a working phone.

I had a phone get only slightly damp and it stopped working. Phone co told me there would be no charge for repair so I sent it in for repair and then they charged me $70 for a replacement. Then they told me that customer service is not qualified to make an assessment. Guess I need to direct all my service inquiries to the board of directors.

I thought I was doing well after putting my USB key drive through the washing machine at the weekend - still works! Save everything on that USB drive as soon as you can. Although it survived the initial washing, parts it might corrode or you might get short circuits between pins later on if the wash water got to the circuit board.

Motorola phones (and a couple of other brands) have a little sticker behind the battery that turns red if it gets wet. Frankly, even the slightest moisture can hurt a phone (like most electronics).. the transmitters are especially sensitive in newer digital phones.

When I travel, I always pack a zip lock back full of rice...it's a strong natural dessicant and can help dry out sensitive electronics, restoring their functionality. I have used it to successfully bring back to life a cell phone that fell in a tub, a (high $$) digital camera that got stuck in the rain, and a laptop keyboard that I spilled water on. High sugar liquids (i.e. soda, wine, etc.) will probably damage circuitry irreperably, but for just water, melted snow and vapor exposure, packing the item in white rice overnight has saved me lots of heartache and expense.
Not sure how well it works with cod digestive juices.

And my sticker on my V300 showed no indication of water damage. If they are going to use that as a metric and declare that there will be no charge then they should stick to their word. Otherwise I might have made a different decision such as apply the money to a new phone or find another company.

I kept calling it but I gave up hope after a couple of days. I'll bet that annoyed the cod!

That isn’t a be all and end all test, it is just a quick indicator.. kind of like the pop-up thermometer in a turkey.. it helps you determine if it is properly cooked, but it doesn’t guarantee it. I can’t tell you how many phones I’ve lost due to water damage.. I know enough to pop them open and see, most folks I wouldn’t recommend that.
