The odds that there are “beings” who not only share some piece of our reality but who share our human concepts of time and space are too remote to imagine. Calculate the additional odds that such “beings” share even one human mode of perception - - Sight, for example? Touch? Hearing? - - and that they understand concepts such as “thought” and “travel” and, well....

“Trillions and trillions” of “earth-like planets” can’t even begin to scratch those odds. We are by no means alone, but there will never be contact that makes any sense to us. To believe otherwise is the ultimate in vanity. That said, it’s fun to dream. I signed up with the Science Fiction Book Club in 1968.
