The original thought behind SETI was we’d point our “ears” in any direction and hear millions of civilizations speaking to each other... We put on our ears and ... nothing. In every direction. Nada. No one. Zip.

Where do you get that? No one ever claimed that.

If you feel we are so special, and we are the only planet out of tens of hundreds of billions to harbor life, fine...But don't just make crap up like you have here.

I think a lot of people got sucked into Buck Rogers and Jules Verne and later Star Trek and Star Wars. The planets in those shows are metaphors for countries, and space is a metaphor for the oceans, whether intentional or not, and it harkens back to a day when there were places on this planet that were truly unexplored, or at least the civilizations hadn't contacted each other enough for everything to seem familiar.

As to whether there is life out there, I have no idea. Whether I believe it or not has no bearing on whether it's out there. If there is life out there, it's possibly algae, not Vulcans or hot green chicks.
