I am a US Air Force Meteorologist.

Oh - you're one of those guys, eh? ;)

When I was at Nellis, we had lightning over the base, no warning from weather about lightning in 10 or lightning in 5. I called the weather station to find out what was going on. The fellow steps outside, and almost gets hit - turns out the lightning detection system had taken a direct hit and wasn't reporting anything. Needless to say, we had already stopped loading live munitions or tanking aircraft long before that had happened.

My father in law was an Air Force meteorologist during WW II. Said he was good enough at his job that he could look into a girl’s eyes and tell weather/whether! ;^)
