A giant white horse has been chosen as a new £2m art commission for south east England dubbed "Angel of the South".The design, by former Turner Prize winner Mark Wallinger, was selected from a three-strong shortlist as part of the Ebbsfleet Landmark Project. His design for the public art commission will see a horse standing on all four hooves at 33 times life-size.Once built, it will dominate the north Kent landscape, standing as high as Nelson's Column at about 164ft (50m).

Why?
Publicly funded arts.
Yawn. Another Trojan...
Yes, why? I mean, nobody loves and admires the English horse more than I do, and nobody supports representational graphic and sculptural art more than I do, but, uh, somehow I’m not seeing the point. This looks like one of those life-sized plastic horse models they have in tack shops to display the saddles.
The model in the article is very different from the picture you show here. I think your picture is of a photo of a real grey horse while the article shows the model of the finished artwork, which has nowhere near such good conformation.
"Riding high: a mock-up of how Mark Wallinger's giant horse might look at Ebbsfleet"
In 1884, the "Colossal Elephant" was built in Coney Island, NY. The Coney Island elephant cost $250,000 to build and stood 125 feet high (7 stories) and had 31 hotel rooms. Her legs were 60 feet in circumference (one leg housed a cigar store, another had a diorama, and the 2 others had circular staircases). The elephant faced the sea and gave visitors to the observatory great ocean vistas through slits in the elephant's eyes. You could go to the top for a full 360 degree 50 mile view. At night, searchlights flashed erratically from her eyes. It was advertised as the 8th Wonder of the World. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire in 1896 after only 12 years of operation.
Dang it...I was hoping to be the first to make a “Trojan Horse” comment in light of the imminent Muslim takeover...
