It totally blows my mind that we depend on China (where just a few years ago they couldn’t feed their own population) for such a low value product as string beans.

Guess it is a supply thing... There used to be many canneries around here, but over the years they have gone by the wayside. I can think of at least 6 within 20 miles of here that have closed in the last 25 years. So, I guess we have to depend on others to eat.

Of course some of us don’t as we grow and preserve our own.

Oh, my string beans are up!

My beans are up as well as are the peas, lettuce, and onions.

The other things I am amazed that we get from China are garlic and apple juice. So much of NYS is apple country. Orchards are everywhere in CNY. Why import juice when American farmers could be earning the money?

Garlic is another thing as it is so easy to grow. I got two bulbs and divided the cloves and planted them and they are growing very well. The flowers are very pretty and garlic could be grown even in a flower garden.
