I’ve been keeping mine in a baggie with the canner, but a couple times have almost panicked when it wasn’t immediately in sight.

How is it attached on the other side?

I used a cotter pin -

a short piece of chain.
and a split key ring.
I guess you could use two of the split key rings instead of cotter pin.

I too was in a panic a couple of times over misplacing it, so decided a tether was the solution...
