Yeah, we have a fire on chilly nights nearly year long. Forecasting a week of nearly steady rain. Yuck! Lucky we have loads of our own wood. Got up in the middle of the night one day last week and it was 92 degrees in the kitchen. TOO hot.
Am not familiar with the kerosene heater you just purchased. Remember over 65 years ago the three burner kerosene stove my grandmother had in her shed that she cooked on all summer. It had four thin flimsy legs and she would put two heavy canners at a time on it. It's a wonder she didn't burn the whole farm down, cows, horses, pigs, hens and all. She had a round table in the shed where she put all her newly canned goods until Gramps would tote them to the cellar where they would be lined up along with her other rows upon rows of canned goods. That table has its place of honor in my dining area now and it is cherished, nicks, scratches and all.
Would you believe they still make them...
The one I got is this one...

I sure wish I had a good wood burner cook stove... To do it though, I would have to put the chimney right up over the 6' wide window in the master bedroom - don't think the wife would go for that. I often toast using a cast iron skillet - imparts a much better taste than the electric toaster.
