Do people still buy coffee in metal cans? Used to make candle cookers with those when I was a scout.<<<

LOL, if you are a hoarder like I am, you have a few hidden under the counter, back in the far corner.

Is your candle cooker the one that is a can filled with wood shavings and wax poured over it , with a couple wicks?

The Mormons had the plans for one before Y2K, and I do not remember how it was made, I know they tested it and could cook and heat, plus light a room for the night.

I knew there was a reason that I never listen to the local radio station at this time of the night, it keeps saying the snow level is 5,000 foot for tonight, and I am at 3,300 foot elevation, so it often hits me, it is getting cold.

So far no rain, they promised that this morning and it looked as tho it would, and the cold wind blew all day.

Even the weather is depressed.

Actually, fifty years ago, in Scouts, we would set a candle afire under a coffee can with one end removed and beer can opener triangle holes in the side near the un-removed end of the can. The surface would heat up sufficiently to cook eggs, etc. The cans were steel back then and you could cook on the actual metal surface or use an aluminium pan or pot. I’ve cooked many a camping meal on one of those contraptions.

“Do people still buy coffee in metal cans? “

I buy some in plastic, but I can still get coffee in metal cans. Depends what’s on sale.

I’ve used the metal cans to make emergency kits for our cars in the winter. Include a candle, matches, snack bars, tea bags, bullion cubes, etc. If needed, snow can be put in the can and heated with the candle. Warm drinks made with the water. My kids laugh at me when I’ve given them one for their car when traveling in the winter, but gracious enough to humor me and accept them without too much fuss. Even with cell phones, and well traveled roads, I still read of the occasional incident when people get stranded. It’s such a small container and may provide life saving items should they be needed.
