yes, free republic is a great source of all kinds of information...Got on a thread a few months back, some freeper wanted to know the best kind of home safety gun to get and with hundred replies, about 80% said Remington 870 12 or 20 gage shot gun, some liked the pump, some like the automatic. so I went out and got one.(12 gage pump).My son's approve of it. Good gun One of my son's knew I was getting a shotgun so for my birthday he brought me a big beautiful case, that is too big for me and too heavy. So hes taking it back and buying me shell's. I have 5 boxes of practice shells so he's getting me longer ones...All my son's and most of my grandson's hunt bow and arrow. Several hunt deer also in gun season. My 14 year old grandson got his first deer this year...They won't starve if things get too bad. They can always hunt...

I hope you have a place to practice. Get used to the kick, and the noise. I know shotguns are better for home protection, but I’m a real sissy when it comes to shotguns!!

Congratulations to your grandson. My 17 y.o. grandson is still trying. Bless his heart, he gets up at the crack of dawn and bundles up and heads for the woods, and comes back frozen to death, but he never quits trying! He’ll get one someday, I just know it!!
