>>>That’s a great store owner you got there.<<<

Yep, sure is... He has worked hard to build up that little business and it seems to be paying off. They built on 2 years ago and I was worried for him - but he had a good plan and his whole family pitches in... His wife is a nurse and soon as she gets off, she is right there - one daughter is just out of high school and works full time there while she takes night classes at a Junior College. Their younger daughter -about 11 or 12 is a corker... A lot of the old timers will tease her when she is running the register - but they don’t get to pull the wool over her eyes...

When he expanded, he put in some booths so people ordering sandwiches, etc. can sit - Has a LCD flatscreen that stays on Fox News... Morning, noon and night, there are always some of our locals sitting around talking and having coffee, doughnuts, or a bite to eat and discussing the world situation. He even put a wide porch on it and has rocking chairs with some barrels with checkerboards.

Rather than going in town, most of us try to support his efforts and check out his store first.

Makes me feel old - I remember when he was in diapers... Gosh, I even remember when his parents were kids... OK gotta quit this or I will start believing how old I am... LOL

Oh, he was telling me the last time I was there that he had made a big mistake... he had placed an ad in the paper for a grill/counter person - The paper had gone out that morning and he had already had well over a hundred phone calls from people wanting the job. He said he had 2 chefs from big restaurants, an MBA, a whole bunch of retired people who hadn’t worked in years, salesmen, carpenters, roofers, and the calls just kept coming. Kind of gives you a hint of the employment picture.

I think I want to move there. ;) Sounds like a great place to hang out with like-minded people. The rocking chairs and checkers has a real old-time sounds to it. I think I was born way, way too late - I love hearing about the old days and have the values more like my grandmother than the people I know today (even some grandparents I know who are fine with their grandkids shacking up or having illegitimate kids).

It's sad all over. Are you near a big city with people looking for work all over? I've heard of people with masters applying for a car sales position. This is getting more like the depression stories - and Obama has only got started on ruining the economy!

I thought about you today at Winco as I was picking up Mason Jars and browsing the bulk items to see what else I should store ;) I was also wondering what kind of canner to get (I'm feeling brave enough to try it now - it had to sink in for a few weeks!). Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated, GG.
