Oh boy - Eagle50AE, you stumped me on that one...

Moon signs have always been a mystery to me...

Waxing, Waning, dark, light, first quarter, third quarter, and all the other moon terminology all run together in my mind... I do get the dark of the moon and the full moon, along with Blue Moon, and Harvest Moon, but aside from those, it always seemed too complex to spend the time to figure out and fully understand... Engineer in me keeps wanting to know WHY & HOW?

I do think there is something to it, as I can remember in the late ‘40s when my father was managing the building of the Sears warehouse in Cuba, They were waiting for the shelving to be sawn. The sawyer said that if he sawed it then, it would warp like crazy and he needed to wait for 2 more weeks so the sign would be right and it would dry straight... My father told him to saw half of it now - and the other half in two weeks, and not to worry, they would take it all...

Well he followed that lumber and the sawyer was right... Dad said it dried ‘crooked as a dog’s hind leg’. So, moon signs must work...

I do know that Grandpa Loomis always insisted on planting all root crops when the moon was dark and in the lower half of the body. (I think that was right - too many years ago...) And he insisted that weeding during another sign, said it kept them from growing back. He kept his almanac hanging in his garden shed - had a string through one of the holes they usually have punched in them and hung it on a nail right by the door.

Maybe my crop successes were dumb luck and I hit the right sign - but I don’t know if I did...

I tried Google and found several books for sale about it, but none of those good freebies...
