The man that bought our horses in Ramona, allowed us on his ranch, to see the gathering spot for the Indian women, where they did their grinding. In a grove of huge trees, there were several large almost flat granite boulders, just the right height to sit on, and they were full of grinding holes. I didn’t count them, but could see that there might well be 50 to a 100 holes, several boulders.

I used to live in a town called Lakeside,not too far from Ramona.As a child we would play on boulders that had the same grinding holes in them ,as you described.

They were neat!

Yes, I know Lakeside well, LOL, or did, I left San Diego in 1969.

Those rocks are interesting, to me, for the simple reason that they had them every place on their travels.

We talk about which mill to buy and they simple asked for the grinding stone.
