We’ve got a pretty big patch of nettles by the barn. A few that keep coming back in my flower garden too. Those I try to get rid of so I don’t get “stung”. I’ll have to experiment with it this summer. It sounds like a good “weed” to keep around.

Nettles is a good weed to have around. I tried cooking them up like any other green for the first time about 7 or 8 years ago. Tastes like greens. Add a little salt, pepper, vinegar, bacon grease or butter and serve with cornbread and you got a good meal. Not bad for the nasty stickery stinging things. I only cooked and ate ‘em once. But now I know I can and they are good.

Yes, do try all their uses.

I was surprised that I liked the Amaranth /pig weed family for greens better than spinach, just steam them and add butter.

Purslane I have been eating 30 years, buy the seeds at Nichols in Oregon.

There is a lot out there to learn and many of your types of plants, I will not have here.

Nettles is in the back of my mind as on the dye plant list, but I didn’t look so am not sure I am right.
