Almost any scanner that you turn on, will have a call for a home invasion or car hijacking, within a few minutes, even my small town....granny

HOSTAGE SITUATION AND KID-NAP !!! In many kidnap/hostage situations you might find yourself tied up and gagged. Being tied up, even for a short time, can be very painful and may even cause serious injury by cutting off blood circulation. To avoid injury and make the restraints less effective, do the following:

1. Relax as you are being tied to a chair. Slump down, keeping the small of your back away from the chair. When you straighten up, there may be enough slack in your bonds for you to escape.
2. Expand your chest and keep it expanded until the tying is finished.
3. Try to keep your knees or ankles slightly apart.
4. Keep your hands slightly apart — but don’t overdo it — you need just enough to wriggle out of your bonds.
5. If you are on the ground with your hands tied behind you, try to pass your hands under your rear. With your hands in front you can then use your teeth to undo knots.
6. If gagged, try to catch the gag in your teeth so it is not forced all the way back into your mouth.
7. Rub a blindfold against a shoulder or any convenient edge to push it UP — don’t try to lower it, your nose will get in the way.
8. Use any sharp edge to wear through the ropes.
9. If you are tied up with other people, teamwork can achieve more — try to undo a fellow captive’s knots with your teeth or fingers.

Plotting an escape may make you feel better, but think again. Are the kidnappers armed? How many of them are there? Where are you? Where will you go? In some cases of kidnap, victims may actually be taken to other countries! If you don’t seem to be at great risk physically, it may be safer to stay put.

This post combines with my article “Basic Survival Skills Training For Survival Groups, “A Checklist for Survival Skills” (revision 02)”. I had started out by trying to add each Training Task Outline (TTO) to each survival skill listed in that post. There are approximately 89 survival skills listed in that article. As I began editing all the tasks and with the added fact the many of the skills had graphics in them, which are not in the posts, I saw this was too much of a project for me with the limited time that I have and how I envisioned them turning out. So what I am planning on doing is just posting the TTO as is with no editing or additions. I have most of the training tasks in .txt form but not all of them. All of them can be found with graphics in the sources listed at the bottom of my article Basic Survival Skillls Training for Survival Groups. Since I will be posting them as time permits, if someone comes across say post TTO B-4, to find all of the previous skills that had been posted just use DejaNews search filter at; http://www.dejanews.com/home_sf.shtml I have also revised the post “Basic Survival Skills Training For Survival Groups” (revision 02) so that the posted TTO corresponds with the letter and number in that article. the first skills listed in that artice are Basic Tactical Survival Skills and is listed as the letter A and the first skill is # 1, hence skill A-1. “Train To Survive” 233 MP & Survival WebSite Address At; http://members.aol.com/Yondan444/index.html Also check out these sites for Info and FAQ’s; http://www.idir.net/~medintz http://waltonfeed.com/grain/faqs/ http://www.survival-center.com/foodfaq/ff1-toc.htm http://www.halcyon.com/cary/homepage.html

FOOD STORAGE TIP OF THE OLD DAYS STRAW CELLAR

Here is a tip from Jon Bies in Barry Ontario. His ancestors in Holland had a way to keep food that we might well keep in mind. They would dig a hole in the ground about 2 or 3 feet deep, then cover the bottom with hay about 6” thick, then they would lay potatoes or whatever other vegys they had on top of that hay, then make another layer of hay of maybe 2” then another layer of vegys. Once they were near the top a final layer of 6 inches of hay was then covered over by 4 to 6 inches of earth.

Each time they would need potatoes they would remove the earth which had solidified over the hay acting as a kind of lid, they would then remove the potatoes they needed making sure to recover the rest of the potatoes with hay, the replace the top lid hay/earth and bingo they had stored their food safely from any frost. They never had frozen vegys.

BURNS AND WOUND NATURAL MEDICINE

Date: Mon, 02 Aug 1999 07:53:23 +0000
From: techsite@data.net.mx (Waldo Soberon Cueto)
Subject: some info. for you

I been reading most of your info. which by the way I think is great.
In some place of your bible you ask info regarding the use of
tepezcohuite from Mexico in case of burns.

Well, I have used it myself. An I have some info.that I will be glad to
share and I´m sure is going to help at least one guy.

I like to build Radio controlled planes. One day at midnight I Was
covering one plane with monokote when I saw dirt in the top of it. Iwas
wearing thick pants so it was easy to my to apply a wet piece of cloth
in the top of my pants to clean the iron.

In less than a second I burned my leg. I imediattley call my wife and we
ask for help.

Some friends told me to use Tepezcohuite so I got some at the Drug store
(Without any Brand ) Sounds incredible but it easy to find. Tepecohite
is nothing more than a ( Corteza ) or the outside part of the tree and
looks like dark milled wood.

To days after appling it, It became hard and I went to( Medica Sur )one
of the best Hospitals in Mexico City and a specialist told me that is
ok to use that product in fact you can use the corteza from almost any
tree. After some time it naturally came off leaving me only a scar which
is normal. My only advice to anyone that use Tepezcohuite is that it
should be boil before use since I forgot that, and I was lucky that the
wound didn´t get infected.By the way, you don´t need to be chaman to use
it. Regards and good luck Waldo Soberon

NO MORE BUGS TO BUG YOU!

LOL!

Believe it or not, I'm getting to the point that they don't even bother me at all now! The swarms of skeeters really bypass me if I skip a shower! Same deal with Judy! So I keep the patio size citronella pot burning when I'm working in the shed... really helps!

7 More Swine Flu Deaths Reported in NYC

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

NEW YORK — Health officials on Tuesday reported seven more deaths from swine flu, bringing the city’s total to 23, the most in the nation.

The Department of Health didn’t identify the victims or say when they died in an update posted on its Web site. It said the victims were between the ages of 25 and 64 and most had been hospitalized late last month.

The health department’s last update was just four days ago, when it added one more death to make the total 16. That death involved a person in his or her 40s.

Nassau County, on Long Island, also reported one death from swine flu on Tuesday, a woman in her 20s who had given birth 10 days earlier.

New York City health officials say at least 16 of the people who have died had other health conditions. The city also said more than 1,000 cases of swine flu have been confirmed, but that doesn’t reflect the overall incidence of swine flu. City health officials estimate 253,000 people had the swine flu in Queens and Brooklyn alone during May.

The city leads the country in swine flu deaths, according to the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The outbreak began in April in Queens.

Brazil finds new strain of H1N1 virus
Jun 16 01:11 PM US/Eastern

Brazilian scientists have identified a new strain of the H1N1 virus after examining samples from a patient in Sao Paulo, their institute said Tuesday.

The variant has been called A/Sao Paulo/1454/H1N1 by the Adolfo Lutz Bacteriological Institute, which compared it with samples of the A(H1N1) swine flu from California.

The genetic sequence of the new sub-type of the H1N1 virus was isolated by a virology team lead by one of its researchers, Terezinha Maria de Paiva, the institute said in a statement.

The mutation comprised of alterations in the Hemagglutinin protein which allows the virus to infect new hosts, it said.

It was not yet known whether the new strain was more aggressive than the current A(H1N1) virus which has been declared pandemic by the World Health Organization.

The genetic make-up of the H1N1 virus and its subvariants are important for scientists.

Pharmaceutical companies are working to mass produce a vaccine against the current A(H1N1) flu.

There are fears though that it could mutate into a deadly strain, much in the same way as the 1918 Spanish flu — also an A(H1N1) virus type — did when it killed tens of millions around the planet.

According to the WHO, 36,000 people in 76 countries have been infected with the H1N1 virus, causing 163 deaths.

It is August, 2011 in a little town in Northern California. It is raining, and the bleak, soggy town looks totally deserted. It is tough times...everybody is in debt......everybody lives on credit.

One day, a rich tourist comes to town. He enters the only hotel, lays a $100.00 bill on the reception counter, and goes to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one. The hotel proprietor takes the $100.00 bill and runs to pay his debt to the butcher. The butcher takes the $100.00 bill, and runs to pay his debt to the pig farmer. The pig farmer takes the $100.00 bill, and runs to pay his debt to the feed store proprietor. The proprietor of the feed store takes the $100.00 bill and runs to pay his debt to the town’s prostitute. (Who, in these hard times, gave her “services” on credit). The prostitute takes the $100.00 bill and runs to the hotel and pays off her debt to the proprietor for the rooms she rented when she brought her clients there. The hotel proprietor then lays the $100.00 bill back on the counter so that the rich tourist will not suspect anything.

The rich tourist comes down after inspecting the rooms, takes his $100.00 bill, and saying that he did not like any of the rooms, he leaves town. The whole town believes it is now without any debt, and looks to the future with great optimism! However, no one has actually earned anything.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the United States Government under ‘Obam-A-Lama-Ding-Dong’ is doing business today. It is truly frightening.....

News & Resources

Organic EQIP Applications Still Being Sought
http://ofrf.org/policy/federal_legislation/farm_bill_implementation/eqip_oi_resource_page.html
USDA is allocating $50 million of funds through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) to be set aside for a new Organics Initiative to assist organic farmers and those transitioning to organic. Current organic producers and those transitioning to organic will be eligible to receive contracts for implementing conservation practices and conservation planning under the program. Some states have extended the application deadline. Find out about the program in your state by contacting the NRCS Organic contact (http://ofrf.org/policy/federal_legislation/farm_bill_implementation/nrcs_organic_state_contacts.pdf).

Ag Law Website Features New Information
http://nationalaglawcenter.org/reporter/clearinghouse/
Within the last month, Right-To-Farm, Climate Change, and Biofuels statutory citations were added to the National Ag Law Center’s State Law Clearinghouse (http://nationalaglawcenter.org/reporter/clearinghouse/), bringing the total to eight statutory compilations. While citations are currently available, the work on the biofuels and climate change compilations is still in progress. Work has begun on the extensive task of digitizing the text of each of the statutes to provide an even handier research tool.

Farmers’ Market Survey Report Released
http://www.ams.usda.gov/AMSv1.0/ams.fetchTemplateData.do?template=TemplateU&navID=LatestReleases&page=Newsroom&topNav=Newsroom&leftNav=&rightNav1=LatestReleases&rightNav2=&resultType=Details&dDocName=STELPRDC5077326&dID=113431&wf=false&description=US
The U.S. Department of Agriculture today announced the publication of the USDA National Farmers’ Market Survey, 2006. This report of a survey conducted by USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) in 2006, in partnership with Michigan State University, draws a comprehensive picture of farmers’ markets in the United States in 2005, the year surveyed. The report presents data from seven U.S. regions. It looks at such information as the number of vendors, the number of customers, the age of the market, the types of goods sold, and the way those goods were labeled, and analyzes the factors that contributed to the success of the markets.

Factsheet Tells How to Protect Organic Land from Chemical Sprays
http://www.mosesorganic.org/attachments/productioninfo/fsnospray.html
A new factsheet from Midwest Organic & Sustainable Education Service (MOSES) covers ways to lessen the chance of contamination of organic land. The publications covers six ways to stay proactive and protect your land.

Publication Highlights ‘Farming With Grass’
http://www.ars.usda.gov/is/pr/2009/090609.htm
Recently the Soil and Water Conservation Society published the proceedings from the Farming with Grass Conference held in Oklahoma in 2008 in an online book titled ‘Farming with Grass’ (http://www.swcs.org/en/publications/farming_with_grass/). In summarizing stories from the conference, participants envisioned mixed livestock, perennial plants, and other crops, instead of large stands of a single-row crop monoculture. The goal is to sustain farms and rural communities both economically and environmentally, while offering local, healthy foods and other new products.

Pennsylvania Farmers’ Markets Provide Vouchers
http://www.pennsylvaniaagconnection.com/story-state.php?Id=463&yr=2009
The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program provides vouchers for eligible older adults and families to purchase fresh local foods at farm markets and farm stands across Pennsylvania. Secretary of Agriculture Dennis Wolff said Pennsylvania is one of only a few states that provide state funding in addition to federal grants. As a result, all of Pennsylvania is covered by the program. Statewide, 1,025 farmers are participating in the program at 189 farm markets and 920 roadside farm stands.

Funding Opportunities

New York Farmers’ Market Grant Program
http://www.farmersmarketcoalition.org/ny-grantprogram/
This grant program provides up to $25,000 in matching funds for the construction, reconstruction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation of farmers’ markets in New York State.

Farm Aid Grants
http://www.farmaid.org/site/c.qlI5IhNVJsE/b.2723745/k.9953/Grant_Guidelines.htm
Farm Aid offers grants in three categories. Grants in the Growing the Good Food Movement category fund
organizations or projects that work with the growing number of Americans reaching for and demanding family farm-identified, local, organic or humanely-raised food. These grants build connections between farmers and consumers, creating new markets for family farmers. Helping Farmers Thrive grants fund organizations or projects that assist farmers transitioning to more sustainable and profitable farming practices, find alternative markets, or start a new farming operation as well as provide support services to farm families in crisis. Taking Action to Change the System grants fund organizations or projects that promote fair farm policies and grassroots organizing campaigns to defend and bolster family farm-centered agriculture. These grants enable advocates to strengthen the voices of family farmers and promote their interests on a local, regional and national level.
Proposals are due August 1, 2009.

OCIA Research & Education Micro Grants
http://www.ocia.org/RE/MicroGrant.aspx
Grants can be for any of the following areas that involve organics, and benefit multiple producers, processors and/or consumers: Organic Research; Organic Education; and Other ideas supporting/promoting organic agriculture. Typical grants would be in the range of $300 to $1,500, on a first come - first served basis provided projects meet requirements.

In this workshop, participants will learn these advanced principles of plant metamorphosis through instructive plant demonstrations, through artistic work, and by applying these principles in their own plant observation and collection in the field. Participants will thus better understand the dynamics of biodynamic practice. This 6th annual workshop will also include on-farm slaughter using the USDA mobile unit, harvesting of animal sheaths and demonstration of biodynamic prep making and usage, a farm walk on various topics on how to form a healthy farm organism, and most of all, celebrating farm-produced food and drink.

Urban Farming, a Bit Closer to the Sun - New York Times

This summer, Tony Tomelden hopes to be making bloody marys at the Pug in Washington,
D.C., with tomatoes and chilies grown above the bar, thanks to the city’s incentives
for green roofs.

Mr. Tomelden, the Pug’s principal owner, says he’s planting a garden to take advantage
of tax subsidies the city offers in his neighborhood if he covers his roof with
plants.

The Queen installs a vegetable patch at Buckingham Palace

For the first time since the Second World War vegetables are being grown in the
Palace’s grounds alongside ornamental plants.

The move comes amid a surge in demand from people up and down the country to have
their own allotment to grow their own food during the recession.

The Queen’s organic vegetable patch is about 10 yards by eight yards in size. It
is at the rear of the garden in an area which is called the Yard Bed. (article

Vegetables In A Bowl Or The Gardener - by Giuseppe Arcimbold - 1500’s

Giuseppe Arcimboldo (also spelled Arcimboldi; 1527 - July 11, 1593) was an Italian
painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of such
objects as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books - that is, he painted representations
of these objects on the canvas arranged in such a way that the whole collection
of objects formed a recognisable likeness of the portrait subject.

Davie Village Community Garden - Eight months later

XERO Project, winner of a first-place prize, focuses on urban agriculture

“What if one block in Texas became the sustainable model for the world?

XERO Project, a proposal for an “X” of greenways and zero-energy building design
in downtown Dallas, earned one of three first-place prizes in the Re:Vision Dallas

Urban Agriculture

As a complement to neighboring arts and historic areas, the XERO District is focused
on urban agriculture and food. Public orchards, community gardens, private planter
boxes, food stalls, and locally supplied restaurants contribute to the district
character and buzz.

I’m glad you liked the bouquet of flowers posted for you. Trying to catch up, I see you had a visit with Diana.<<<

Yes, I enjoyed your bouquet.

Diana was here on a flying visit, she is job hunting and needed to get back, but also needed to clean up/record legal papers for when she deals with my ‘estate’, LOL, fancy word for junk.

She didn’t even cut my hair, or have time for my list.

The swarms of skeeters really bypass me if I skip a shower! Same deal with Judy! So I keep the patio size citronella pot burning when I’m working in the shed... really helps!<<<

I had heard of the bugs being attracted to flower smells.

If you have peppermint, try rubbing a handfull of it on your exposted areas and see what happens, some say it works.
