That is great advice. It makes sense a length of red yarn would be easier to see than a little dot of red nail polish.

http://imlivingoutloud.blogspot.com/2009/05/recipe-quick-brown-rice-casserole.html

RECIPE: Quick Brown Rice Casserole

Okay, I invented this recipe last night when I didn’t have the ingredients for a traditional rice pilaf, and didn’t have all the ingredients for a baked brown rice.

serves 4-6

1 boil-in-bag Brown Rice (quick rice that cooks in 10 minutes)-cooked
(Brown rice is healthier and has a nice nutty taste perfect for this recipe)

Mix with:
1 small can mushroom stems ‘n pieces
1/2 cup or so of frozen seasoning mix (I think it’s onions, peppers, celery, parsley)
1 tsp. butter
little shake of poultry seasoning, and garlic pepper seasoning, and sea salt
1 egg

Bake for 375 in a convection oven for 10 minutes. Or 375 in regular oven for 15 minutes.

Remove and add about 1/2 cup of grated reduced fat Mexican blend cheese—stir. Pat down with back of spoon. Then sprinkle about 1/3 cup of sliced almonds on top.

Go back in the 375 convection oven for about 5-10 more minutes.

It’s all ready in just 30 minutes—most steamed brown rice takes 50 minutes so this is a good time saver, boosts up the taste AND the nutritional values.

YUM!

Yep. Those are the easy things to do and plan for. It is the outer edge of survival that I think about. Keeping pigs, chickens, a garden and grain storage is a given. Snaring rabbits and game birds is a little harder just requires skills and patience. I have kept my pellet gun for just such food when I’m out and about. Rabbits are so easy to get with a pellet gun it is silly to use any other method (unless the damn thing breaks).

“Try refunding too”
My sister and I did refunding big time when our kids were little. I had a shelving unit set up in the basement where we had all our packaging saved and then we would go through and mail all our refunds in. As the kids got older and we got busier, we let it go. I still mail in a refund or 2, but most require the register tape be mailed with it as proof of purchase.

My husband does the refunds from Menards home improvement store. Most items are free with rebate. Then he saves the rebate money (Menards money). In about 6 months time, he had earned enough rebate money to pay for a drill press.

Denial to the extreme

Woman interviewed on TV this AM.
Living in the southern Bs As suburbs in Isla Maciel ( hell on earth) her daughter got caught in the firefight between two rival drug dealing gangs.

This happened 3 months ago and the 2 year old girl that was playing on the sidewalk ( responsible parents DON’T let kids play on the sidewalks anymore) got shot once in her arm, and another shot went through the arm as well but went through the torso and lungs too. She arrived to the hospital nearly dead, doctors told the woman there was no hope, but miraculously she survived.

The reporter asks around about what’s life like in Isla Maciel:

Constant gunfighting, even the famous child prostitution industry of the place is going down because of the out of control crime. Criminals say they don’t steal from their own neighbors (supposedly, of course) but a stranger walking or driving in there by mistake has only two choices: Either leave in an ambulance, or if lucky walk out of there butt naked. They’ll even take your clothes.

Now the beautiful part. After the report, after the mother shows the gun shot wounds in her daughter’s body, the reporter asks her if she feels safe, to what she replies with a smile “Oh, yes, I feel safe, in peace. I have faith God will protect us”. Since when does having faith in God = sticking the head in the sand?
Isn’t denial just wonderful?

The lesson here is: Denial is a survival mechanism. Sheep convincing themselves things are ok doesn’t change reality.

today, the June 09 edition of the Smithsonian magazine arrived with a Glowing article about
Brighter Days in Buenos Aires, the “Paris” of South America. obviously, BA is not reflective
of the whole country, or is it? notably, when reporting on the Bad Things, it’s about Argentina.
for the Good Things, it’s all BA according the the Smithsonian. comments?

Yes, here’s my comment.

http://www.feliceslosninos.org/en/prensa/infodeprensa.html

The shanty towns and homeless camps keep growing, more people are poor every year, and every year more kids go hungery or starve to death. I live in Buenos Aires. I’d say that these days, you have to be an idiot to not see what’s going on. Even if you try to stick to the few “nice” places left, this city is a mess, and people get poorer every year.

None are more enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.

Question?
Do you feel free? Are you Truly free? Are you even a little free - anymore?

How does that hold up to your question - Since when does having faith in God = sticking the head in the sand? Isn’t denial just wonderful?

Russian wheat go home!
http://www.egyptiangazette.net.eg/gazette/home/detail_2_22.shtml

Shortly after the entry of a consignment of adultrated Russian wheat into the country has caused a heated discussion under the dome of the Egyptian Parliament, another shipment of Russian wheat of the same bad quality is on its way to Egypt’s ports.

On May 13, Egypt quarantined 52.5 tonnes of Russian wheat at the Red Sea Port of Safaga for quality control reasons, after the labs affiliated to the Agricultural Quarantine Department found dead bugs, seeds and other impurities above the permitted limit in the shipment.

Minister of Agriculture Amin Abaza said that finding strange seeds and bugs in any consignment of wheat is quite normal. “But, if the impurities exceed the agreed percentage, the wheat needs to be purified and this is what actually happened to the consignment in question,” the Minister said. “It has been purified again, reducing the impurities to a safe level.

However, if live insects were found in the shipment, we would have immediately turned it away without any checks,” he added.“We can never release any consignment into the market unless we’ve first made sure that it’s fit for human consumption,” the Minister said. This problem is nothing new.

Last year, a consignment of 60,000 tonnes of wheat was rejected and the importer was obliged to return it to its country of origin. Last summer, tonnes of substandard Ukrainian wheat entered the country causing the production of low-quality bread. Officials in the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) were forced to mix the Ukrainian wheat with wheat produced locally in an attempt to improve its quality. Unlike the first-grade wheat imported from America, Canada, France and Australia, Russian and Ukrainian wheat is fourth or fifth grade.

Egypt, which is the biggest importer of wheat, has bought over five million tonnes of this cereal from overseas in the current fiscal year, most of it from Russia.

Why do we have to settle with wheat of poor quality, when we are one of the world’s top wheat importers, local experts ask.“We import a lot of Russian and Ukrainian wheat because it’s cheap. One tonne is $50 cheaper than one tonne of French wheat,” Nader Nour Eddin, a professor of agricultural crops in the Faculty of Agriculture at Ain Shams University, told the Arabic-language Akher Saa magazine.

Welcome, is folks would listen to the police scanner for the towns that interest you, they will be very shocked at what is happening in our towns, right now.

Last night Las Vegas was a war zone, shooting, knifing, stomping folks and every other type of crime invented.

http://clark.nv.scanamerica.us/index.php

I use the ‘Web Player’, as it does not require a lot of line and I am still on dial up internet.

I will admit to laughing at the 3 fools who tried to pass off phony $100. bills, on an altered $5.00 bill, the clerk caught the bills and kept them.

They called the police to report it and were expecting trouble, for the the would be forgers, were upset that they could not get their bills back and were parked in front of the mini-mart, plotting the next step...........
