I don't plan to be an advocate for the devil, or Democrats, or Leftists. Pretty much the same thing, anyway.

"Devil's advocate" is a phrase meaning someone speaking on the side of an unpopular position, one he may not even hold himself. Like a lawyer for the defense.

2. Roman Catholic Church An official appointed to present arguments against a proposed canonization or beatification.
I mention it because it's such a contrast with the notion of atheism. An atheist wouldn't believe in the devil, either.
