That’s how I buy mine! “Manager’s Special” usually go pretty fast, but they are about 1/4 the cost of what it was the day before.
And sometimes, if you get there early enough, you’ll get some “prepared meals” at the checkout for free. But ya gotta have gray hair! LOL!

If the chicken-fryer at Wal-mart thinks the chicken has been sitting too long, she’ll give it to me for free!

Now THAT’S a deal!!!
I like chicken probably more than I should. I can eat it any time, any way, anywhere.

We don’t care if it’s a little dry - just put more ketchup on!

That would work. When we get the dry bread on clearance, I wrap it in damp paper towels and nuke it.

I’m surprised you don’t make your own bread.
Bread-makers are cheap and easy to come by at thrift stores. All you have to do is set it up in the morning and you have fresh bread for dinner, at less than the cost of stale bread.

I’m back. And I’m exhausted. The trip went well, though the meeting didn’t go at all as planned. The bill we were trying to kill (it was effectively dead before the meeting) came back to life, with modifications suggested by LoM, and with our subsequent assent. I think we have a new ally with the author of the bill and I’m on the hook to help him draft a new bill for next year’s session.

I can’t handle the rest of FR right now, so I’m parking my butt here for a while.

Agreed.
Bread machines are cheap used, free even.
I used to use mine all the time until I stopped eating grain based carbs.

There was a soggy mess outside this morning that had clearly been snow earlier. How about you?

I used to make bread all the time, when I had fewer children. I should keep an eye out for a machine at the secondhand store.

Oops! That didn’t come out the way I wanted it to. My apologies. I was multi-tasking, and I’m not even fit for half-tasking.

"Why should I invest in a bread maker when I seldom eat bread?" Among other things, because you have the time. It could be that one or more of your neighbors who has neither the time, ability, or inclination would be in the market for regular supplies of fresh bread. Particularly specialty breads, such as with inexpensive flavorings or ingredients.
Someone, perhaps, who may have other skills to trade for the bread. Mechanical ability, or even just simple labor for the tasks you find too arduous to do alone.
Or perhaps fresh vegetables in season, or other garden produce.
The basic rule is, do what you find fun or easy to do, and exchange that for things that you find difficult to acquire. Rest assured, your President does not have this rudimentary appreciation for basic economics!
