There are alot of ignorant hypocrits in here....if this kid were to shoot these cat-hating peoples dogs they’d be talking out of other sides of their mouthes. They are also very ignorant about ‘feral and stray’ cats. I just wish they were in the DU threads instead of in here where they should be. I like to think of Conservatives as understanding and intelligent....but I’m getting increasingly disappointed.
Two things. There is no evidence from the story the kid did anything but take a good shot at a cull animal. To stretch from there and say he would shoot anything any time is a real fantasy.
As for feral and stray, I have had experience with both.
We picked up a very young stray, (not feral because she was obviously used to humans and completely unafraid to approach us) and brought it home. The old cat immediately got sick and almost died. ($1000.00 vet bill, five days in kitty intensive care)
As it happened everyone lived happily ever after,( the old cat died at the ripe age of 23) but ever since we have been very careful to take all cats of unknown provenance to the vet FIRST before we allow any contact with the rest of the "pack"
Misplaced compassion is a very dangerous and destructive emotion.
