I agree. I spent many nights in my backyard smoking cigars and rewatching every episode on my laptop.
It was so different the second time around. It's amazing how many little things that went practically unnoticed in some episode were actually very important later on. The writers for this show are incredible.
The best thing about watching it all again is the knowledge that all the dead people who appear are not really the dead people you thought they were the first time around. They are all that guy battling Jacob! Everything they say to the characters can now be viewed as advancing that guy's plan, whatever it is. Like when Mr. Eko's dead brother manipulates him. Or Christian fills Jack's head with stuff. Or Ben's daughter tells Ben to do whatever Locke says. Or dead Locke tells Richard what to tell alive Locke! They're all the same guy, and we don't even know anything about him or what he's really up to. It is such a new angle to view the show.

The writers for this show are incredible.
I agree. The show is "science fiction meets O'Henry.". Every episode can stand on its own as a little morality tale. Wonderful writing.
TV dramas usually have a "Bible" at the start of a series that maps out the characters and plot development for the first five years should they be so fortunate to get picked up four more times. The writers/producers say they had all this figured out from the beginning which seems almost impossible, but so far the story has hung together well, as improbable as so much of it appears.
The head writer/producer is Roman Catholic and the storyline sure seems like a take on purgatory, but he has said that's not it. Other than that, after five years and repeated viewing of all the episodes, my family and I still don't have a strong notion of where this show is taking all of us.
But unless they want a bunch of disappointed fans out there, Jack had better end up together with Kate, happily married with children.
And Penny and Desmond.
And Sawyer and his daughter.
And Sayid and some nice Jewish girl he meets at the deli.
And Sun and Jin.
And John and his legs.
And Charlotte and Daniel.
And Hurley and a comprehensive gym membership...
