because when someone asks a question, you have to accept the premise of the question. You can’t be like the economist who “assumes a can opener.”

This may sound like a stupid question but I'm serious. Does your modem actually even have call waiting or modem on hold capabilities? So do some don't is why I ask and I'm on dial up with call waiting. If you cancel the call waiting all that does is give callers a busy instead of ring tone. You should have some program on the machine like Modem on hold etc that sets these issues. If not then you may need to buy another dial up modem with that capability. Now you got me looking how to teak mine LOL.. No issue for me as I have two land lines and one belongs to my computer.

On a Dell it’s called Net Waiting in the Programs. Others call it Modem on hold etc.

That’s how dial-up works. If you are on the phone, people calling you get either 1) a busy signal, 2) voice mail or 3) a ringing tone awaiting your call-waiting reply. If you are on a dial-up modem and your phone has call-waiting, you get a “beep” that causes your modem to drop the carrier. Your phone can’t ring in any of the cases if you are on the line, hence the poster is a dummy.

I initially had low expectations for this thread, but things are certainly looking up. By page three, the OP should be long forgotten and the funny pictures should start.

I’m popping some popcorn and getting into the comfy chair.

Please procede.

Actually I know the answer to this and it is extremely simple to remedy. It takes about 15 seconds to fix.

Perfect. No interruptions by phone calls.

DSL is great, but now the phone sometimes rings. People that I want to talk to have my cell phone#.

No, the modem can do exactly what he wants it to do and Netzero supports this, but there is a specific way to implement it.

Not necessarily. On some modems you could tweak a register so that if you had call waiting it wouldn't drop carrier. So somebody *could* be calling and having it ring and ring.
