Three of the "final five" (not the Tighs) knew each other and lived in the same area.

I think the flashback comments by Ellen that "everything is set, we'll be reborn together" is going to be critical. It seems to indicate that the five were a small clique that managed to create (or obtain) the resurrection technology.
