Unrepentant Eastwood. Dirty Harry as a retired UAW member, disgruntled by his neighborhood becoming an alien land.
He does provide a little glimmer of what it is to be an American displaced in his own country.
In the movie, Eastwood teaches the boy next door to pay back his debt for theft. He doesn't pull any punches and then teaches the kid how to get a construction job.
All in all, it's a revenge movie (vintage Eastwood) with Eastwood retiring his Dirty Image payback genre.
Yes, he's a racist in the movie until he mixes with the new neighbors who take him as he is, so what!
If folks want to go to the movies to have their political backs scratched, I suggest Oceanside where you can view a marine recruiting film before the flick starts. Come on down and lose the attitude.
It’s not a bait-and-switch, like “Million Dollar Baby”? Looks like one thing, draws in the conservatives, then screws them?
I used to love Savage, and sometimes I still do, but Savage is so completely and overwhelmingly WRONG on this film, it just spins my head around.
Seriously, it's like saying Braveheart or We were Soldiers is a commie flick.
Savage must have been hitting the WINE pretty hard.
PS - Savage is nasty to his staff, doesn't know much about chemistry, and doesn't deserve his (great) family.
PSS - A Master's from UH is like a certificate from Men's Institute of Typing
Not this poster.
Thanks anyway. If it’s worth watching, it’s worth watching legitimately.
Clint. Help us out, out here. We’re starved for non-pc ... (anything, anymore).
My $10 is going to Clint. I hope you’ll do the same.
I didn't think it was PC at all.
That said, Clint is a star. There aren't many left.
That being said, the movie had a good message, but many (read liberals and gangbangers) will be unable to look past the racial slurs and the blatant disrespect of the gangbanger lifestyle (which btw is but a small part of the film). Their hate of “hate” words will blind them from the message of the film.
The movie was not what I was expecting at all. My brother and laughed a lot, but it was a drama. It was not an action movie like the previews suggest. In advance, I apologize for the poor review with incomplete thoughts, but I'm in a hurry.
No no. Savage was talking about a Clint film that had Sean Penn in it. Mystic River. It also had Timothy Robbins and Kevin Bacon.
Savage raved about Robbins and Penn being America hating losers and Clint called in. I heard the call and you could tell by the voice it was Clint. This was back in 2003 when the movie came out.
I liked "City Heat" better.
Oh, OK! I’m straight, now. Cool.
I saw the movie...it’s really good.
Yeah but I get the impression it was a bit libtard because my impression of the trailer was “if we all live with the illegals and get to know them - we will all love them.”
Be careful with that site. I was watching the Hulk (recent one) and it blue-screened my computer. Couldn’t remove the infection and had to rebuild my computer.
Wow. Thanks for the info. If it’s too good to be true...
Three words: "Million Dollar Baby"
Here's hoping the Eastwood of Dirty Harry fame comes through this time.
That’s not a shotgun. That is an M1 Garand.
I didn’t see ‘Million Dollar Baby”, but “Gran Torino” didn’t have any hidden agenda that I could see.
It’s basically a contemporary western, or even a samurai movie. I won’t give away any plot details, but will say that parts of the screenplay reminded me of Mamet’s “Spartan” and “Redbelt”, which dealt with similar ideas. So if you liked those two, I think that you will like “Gran Torino”.
The whole cast was terrific, not just Eastwood.
So, don’t take the kids, but i’d say “go”.
me too! thanks. I haven’t been to the theater since Will Farrel in that race movie and it sucked!
