Winter in Yellowstone is a time of year when the pace slows, when tourist travel diminishes to a mere trickle, and only the brave (or foolish) set out with camera and tripod in the hopes of capturing unique images. It is a time of struggle for wildlife, of countless epic battles for survival between predator and prey, the outcome determining who lives another day, and who starves to death in the frozen waste. It is a time of deep snow and mercilessly cold temperatures that wreak havoc on equipment, batteries, and appendages. And above all, it is a whale of a good time!

Thanks for the pics, I used to live in Jackson Hole.
I do miss being able to drive to Yellowstone in an hour or so. The scenery along with the wildlife is an adventure everytime you go into the park. Such a beautiful place.

It is a beautiful park. My daughter transferred to college out there three years ago and we took a side trip to Yellowstone when we went out to see how she was doing. It was mid-October. The wildlife was abundant as were the fall colors. The only thing missing were the throngs of tourists and their motor homes, other than a few. Long story short is that it ended up costing us less to support three kids in college in Idaho than one locally, where the taxes are sky high.
I just wish the airline tickets were cheaper. If I didn't have to work for a living Idaho and Wyoming would be high on my list of ideal places to live. There are some areas of Idaho where the Democrats don't even bother to field a candidate for local offices-- it is between the Republicans and the Constitution Party. There must be something in the air or water which grows such good sense.
