Though the February 10 general election is only 40 days away, Olmert and spokesmen for Livni and Barak said they were not considering the impact of military moves on the race.They are, however, considering the impact of the November 4 general election on the survival of Israel.
Which is why they need to smash Hamas completely by utterly devastating the Gaza Strip. The Gazans voted in Hamas. Now let them live with the consequences. As for world outrage about such an action, it makes no difference. Remember that the world outrage is coming whether or not the devastation takes place.

Meretz released a statement saying that it was unclear where the country's leaders were taking the country and what the goals of the war were. The party warned that after the war, someone would have to explain why it was not stopped at the right time. I am guessing their enemies can read?
