If you a bargain shotgun from Mossberg based on the 500 series, take a look at their Maverick line. It's pretty much the same as 500, except the safety is different. Barrels for the 500 are interchangeable. I got the the Security 88 model with 18.5" barrel at Academy Sports for $149 about 2 years ago.

I agree the Maverick is a good buy. The one thing I don’t care for on them is they have only one action bar. Of course John Browning only put one on his design which Ithaca copied in the famous model 37.

I still much prefer the double action bars of the model 500, Remington 870, Winchester 1200, 1300 etc.

I’ve got a Maverick 20 gage coming in soon. Didn’t know they made a 18.5 inch version. Would have bought that if I had known. I just chop the long barrel in my lathe.
