I'm a Niners fan and the same thing happened to them a few years back. Matt Leinert was "supposed" to come out as a junior, but he knew that the Niners had the first pick and I think he got cold feet. (Leinert "said" he went back to try to earn a national title, but I don't believe that for a minute.)

The net result, of course, was that the Niners drafted that bum from Utah -- Alex Smith. I wanted Aaron Rodgers, but no one in the Bay Area listened to me.

It's not easy having the first pick. In all seriousness, we need a competitive Lions. I wish them good luck this April.

I never thought I would see it.

It’s probably more remarkable to go an entire season without a win than it is to go undefeated.

If it’s any consolation for the Lions. They will certainly have a better season next year....

LOL

"The Death of Detroit (depressing article, incredibly written)"

Maybe we can trade Detroit (even all of Michigan) to Canada for a few hundred thousand and a city to be named later.

If the Detroit Lions were the Congressional Republicans they would rehire the Head Coach and expect a different result.
And fire any player who actually scored any points or made any tackles.

Yet another organization destined for new-found fairness come mid-January.

“The other teams just have to give up some of their pie so that Lions can have some.”

Add the Lions to the list of Detroit bailouts? Not in dollars but in wins? Sure. Just give them something like 49 WINS—no losses have to be given to anyone else, so it does not cost anyone anything to do it.

DETROIT:
W: 49
L: 16

The do the math: Detroit played a LOT more games than did any other team in the NFL. Handicap them for all the extra abuse their bodies took, all the extra travel time on the road. Man, they start to look pretty amazing.

Everybody wins! What's not to like?

Maybe the Lions should be allowed the first FIVE (or more) draft choices and see if that helps them.... of course, they couldn’t afford the contracts that would be demanded.....

29-83 since the league went to a 32 team/8 division format in 2002.

They might consider applying for a bailout.

Cool! I knew they wouldn’t let me down. :’) On the local garbage wrapper, there was a photo of a Lions fan wearing a t-shirt with this: “0-16, Yes We Can”. This is big — it means that the worst the Lions can do from now on is move sideways — no more getting lower. They’ve bottomed out.

anything in Detroit is destined to die. We should either create a black hole and let Detroit be sucked into it OR we should simply offer to trade Detroit to Canada for something in the western provinces.

It certainly isn’t going to make it in a capitalist country like America...

I say we trade them the entire state of Michigan for the Northwest territories.

If the Detroit Lions were an investment firm, top management would be in line for multimillion dollar bonuses now ;-)

I started celebrating last week, when the Lions dropped their 15th game. That meant the Chiefs (2-14) would have a better record than at least one team.

That is why those of us on the west coast of Michigan consider Green Bay to be “our” team.

Dear Lions,

You suck.

I would say “BURN IN HELL” but since you’re in Detroit it would seem redundant.

Dream on. They had Billy Sims and Barry Sanders and still accomplished nothing. The only way the lions will succeed is when the Ford family no longer owns the team.

This may sound cruel, but in my opinion I think this is continuing justice for what the Lions and Detroit did to Joey Harrington.

Granted, Joey is not a world-beating quaterback. In fact, as a quarterback, he’s a first-rate jazz pianist.

He is a good journeyman, at least. He was a first-rate college QB, because he was the living personification of Joe Cool. That leadership style does not translate well into the NFL, I guess.

After all, how many tough-guy football players would admit that his favorite video game is Ms Pac Man?
