NCAA Divsion II CHAMPIONSHIP: Minnesota-Duluth (14-0) vs. NW Missouri St.(13-1)
Saturday, the Bearcats play for the NCAA title for the fourth consecutive year in a showdown with unbeaten Minnesota-Duluth in Florence, Ala.
Northwest Missouri (13-1) has won two national championships, but the last three years have delivered heartbreak. The Bearcats lost those title games by a total of 12 points, becoming the first school to lose the final three consecutive years.
Minnesota-Duluth (14-0) is playing in the final for the first time, after losing first-round games in 2002 and 2005
NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (I-AA) semifinals
Richmond vs. Northern Iowa
Time/TV: Saturday, 4 p.m./ESPN. Surface: Artificial.
Sagarin difference: Richmond by 4.86.
The Spiders hit the road again seeking their first appearance in the final after vanquishing three-time defending FCS champion Appalachian State. Apparently, Richmond's rugged trek through the CAA, which sent five teams to the playoffs, was sufficient preparation for the postseason. It also helps having TB Josh Vaughan and his 19 rushing TDs to carry the offensive load. QB Eric Ward provides air cover and is a threat to take off himself, though he'll want to stay away from UNI DE James Ruffin and LB Josh Mahoney. The Panthers lost their only title game appearance, to Appalachian, three years ago. QB Pat Grace and RB Corey Lewis do most of the damage for the UNI attack. They must beware of Spiders CB Justin Rogers, who has three defensive TDs this season.
Friday night: Montana edges James Madison to reach FCS championship game 35-27
And last but not least who is your Heisman vote going for this year?
Sam Bradford, Oklahoma
Tim Tebow, Florida
Or Colt McCoy Texas
None of the above.
Colt McCoy Texas. Without a doubt.
I think Tebow is a shoe-in, isn’t he?
The question should be: Who is Tim Tebow going to vote for?
My hunch is that a Big 12 QB will win it, but then again, I didn't think the Beavers would smack the Trojans earlier in the season. Great season!
Come on now. Don’t you want to keep the trophy Texan?
"If Graham is not invited to the Heisman, they ought to quit giving out the award," Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach said in a statement released by the school. "It is a shameless example of politics ruling over performance. The other guys are deserving, but he has earned a place alongside them."
All the polls of voters say it will be a squeaker for Bradford. (who would be the first Native American it win)
Shawn Greene - Iowa RB
Tebow said he is ‘giving careful consideration’ to all of the Big 12 QB’s (and then had a laugh with reporters)
Interesting. I really thought it was a given that it would go to Tebow.
Nah, the question is: Who is OJ going to vote for? One can assume he still has a vote for the same reason that Tebow has one.
Very cool! My daughters would love this...”a win for my people!”. They feel a connection because my Husband’s gg grandfather on one side, and a gg grandmother on the other were Native American. :)
Are you kidding? Haven’t they already crowned ou for the year?
The final Heismanpundit.com/Orlando Sentinel poll before the official results are revealed Saturdray in New York projects Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford as the Heisman Trophy winner.
According to the pollsters, last year’s winner, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, will finish as runner-up and Texas quarterback Colt McCoy will finish third.
A couple of newcomers among the top vote-getters this week were Iowa running back Shonn Greene and Pittsburgh running back LeSean McCoy.
