Christmas at Arlington

Rest easy, sleep well my brothers.
Know the line has held, your job is done.
Rest easy, sleep well.
Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held.
Peace, peace, and farewell..

.

These wreaths -- some 5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state.

That first year he brought thousands of surplus wreaths and a group of volunteers who helped him decorate the gravesites of America's fallen soldiers. Since then it has become an annual event and was expanded in 2006 with the assistance of the Civil Air Patrol to include all of the 230 state and national cemeteries and veterans' monuments throughout the U.S.

Be NOBLE! and the nobleness that lies
In other men, sleeping, but never dead
Will rise in majesty to meet thine own

A Day of Faith

Oh, Father, now we bow in supplication this day
for it is our time, for the debt we owe to pay
You gave us your only Son, and He taught us well
and many strive to follow His path, birth to knell

Amid the cheer and smiling faces we pause to reflect
the sacrifice and pain he carried for us, to deflect
We celebrate His birth, humble as our own
and how He set himself, our sins to atone

for a short time He walked with us and set his mark
and we venture forth, safe from the things of dark
He is the Reason for Season, not the gifts so bright
we must remember that, as is our duty, and His right

Sing a heartfelt song of Noel, hold this season dear
love and laughter fill you full, not a bit of fear
celebrate His coming, a King over all to be again
and we shall bow before Him, the one without a sin

Merry Christmas One and ALL!

That’s so beautiful with the wreaths on all the grave markers. I remember reading about that company last year - such a remarkable thing to do.
