Thank you, Meg, for the compliment on today’s opening, and thank you for your beautiful ‘blue’ post! Once again, it matches the opening, even if it was a coincidence!

Monroe Doctrine Anniversary

President James Monroe’s 1823 annual message to Congress contained the Monroe Doctrine,
which warned European powers not to interfere in the affairs of the Western Hemisphere.

The Monroe Doctrine is the best known U.S. policy toward the Western Hemisphere. Buried
in a routine annual message delivered to Congress by President James Monroe in December 1823,
the doctrine warns European nations that the United States would not tolerate further colonization
or puppet monarchs. The doctrine was conceived to meet major concerns of the moment, but it
soon became a watchword of U.S. policy in the Western Hemisphere.

This one wasn’t coincidence
;o) I remembered it had winter blues.

I had a treat seeing early morning sun hit the large red oak trees in my neighborhood and also on the way to the vet’s..Gorgeous autumn colors against a brilliant blue sky..
It is windy here and too cool to wash the sliding doors..(and they really need it) I am doing the kitchen floor while my kittens are away at the vets..They think sweeping and mopping are playtime.

My apple cake uses canned apples but it is also very moist ..I made it 3 days before company came last Christmas..wrapped it in heavy foil and put in a cool front closet..It was better than ever. Both my Hummingbird cake and the Apple Blossom cake are much better the day after baking..or later.
Now the apple fritters are really turning on my dessert hunger.
Celebrating two very important events in our history today..Great holidays, Billie.
I cannot fathom thinking “owning” another human being was ever acceptable.
